Automobiles are motor vehicles that have four wheels and are used for transport. They typically seat one to eight people, run on roads, and are primarily used to transport people. There are many different types of automobiles, and some have more than one purpose. Listed below are some common types of automobiles.

Daimler

The early cars by Daimler were a step away from the belt-driven carriages of the past. The first models of Daimler cars had front-mounted engines with six to eight horsepower. These cars were known as Phoenix cars.

Maybach

The Maybach automobile is a high-end luxury car from Daimler. Its models are available in both manual and automatic transmissions. In 2005, Daimler unveiled the Maybach 57 S, a high-performance version of the Model 57 saloon. It was developed in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG, and its engine developed 450 kW (612 hp) and a peak torque of 1000 Newton-meters. It was designed for maximum performance and featured a stiffer suspension.

Ford

The Ford automobile was first manufactured in 1908. Its name is a play on the word ‘four’. Developed by Henry Ford, the automobile was a great step up from the quadricycle. It had steering and wheels but no brakes or shocks. The Model T was named after its inventor, and its popularity was unprecedented.

Chrysler

Chrysler is an American manufacturer of automobiles. It was founded in 1925 as the Chrysler Corporation. In 2009, it was reorganized as Chrysler Group LLC. In 2014, it was acquired by Fiat SpA. In 2021, it merged with the PSA Group. In 2012, Chrysler produced 2.37 million vehicles.

General Motors Corporation

General Motors Corporation is a global manufacturer of cars and trucks. It is headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. The company was founded in 1908. As a public company, GM is owned by the U.S. government and several foreign countries. However, in a recent deal, the company sold its auto finance unit, GMAC, to Cerberus Capital Management. This deal will raise about $14 billion over the next three years. GM’s stake in GMAC remains at about 26%, but will now be owned by private equity firms.
