Entertaiment is the activity of providing amusement and enjoyment. It includes such activities as watching movies, television shows, and other films for entertainment; listening to music; attending live performances such as theater, dance, and comedy shows; playing sports or video games; reading novels or short stories for entertainment; and creating or appreciating visual art.
Entertainment has evolved to suit any scale—from a private individual selecting a personal entertainment from a now enormous array of pre-recorded products; to banquets adapted for two; to parties of any size, with accompanying music and dancing; and on to performances intended for large audiences. Entertainment often has a secondary or playful purpose, although it can have serious and ceremonial significance as well.
