What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment

Entertaiment is any form of entertainment which provides pleasure and passes time. It involves an active audience who consumes and enjoys it. It is understood objectively, encompasses communication between text and audience, provides an external stimulus, offers pleasure, and requires passivity from the audience. According to Bates and Ferri (2010), it is anything that can be consumed and provides a consumer experience.

In a broader sense, Entertaiment also refers to events that bring people together or help with societal needs. For example, the SU2C initiative brings together world-class scientists from various institutions to accelerate research breakthroughs that can lead to major advances in fighting cancer. For another example, The Entertaining Institute is an organization that contributes to the societal need of providing entertaining content.
